We are happy and excited about being invited to present, together with our colleague Charlotte Malterre-Barthes,
the work of the MAS Urban Design 14/15 on Cairo's informal neighborhood Ar-El-Liwa,
at the Shenzen Biennale 2015 Radical Urbanism curated by Alfredo Brillembourg and Hubert Klumpner.

On display are several 1/20 models of typical Ard-El-Liwa housing typologies,
and three improved typologies conceived by the MAS.

Something Fantastic and Dr. Rainer Hehl would like to invite students of UdK Berlin and TU Berlin
to a summer school and excursion trip to Brazil in collaboration with PUC Rio de Janeiro and ETH Zurich
from march 9th to 16th on the topic of Tropical Architecture In The Anthropocene with the goal
of analysing and improving low-cost housing in tropical climates. Participants will have the chance to contribute
to an exemplary Minha Casa, Minha Vida pilot project in Parauapebas, Para.

This time the presentation focuses on informal housing in Ardilewa, Cairo. Each group is going to present
their proposals, that follow the market logic of the informal building sector, but aim for higher quality buildings,
a more livable neighborhood, and a more sustainable urban development, on one feddan of land.

Something Fantastic is happy to announce the opening of UNEVEN GROWTH at MoMA New York featuring Varanda Products,
a project we've developed together with RUA architects, Rio, and the ETH Zurich MAS Urban Design.
Veranda Products is an urban tactic for Rio based on products that first are practical and desirable, and second change
the cityscape on an urban level, for example by increasing urban vegetation or offering shade.

The Druot, Lacaton & Vassal Tour bois le Pretre exhibition is going into a third round, hosted by Haus der Architektur Graz.
As at DAM Frankfurt and DAZ Berlin, the interiors of Tour Bois Le Pretre will displayed in 1:1 dioramas.
And as in the two previous exhibitions, the approach of Lacaton & Vassal
to open up the tower to the outside will translate and be applied to the spaces of HDA Graz.

Barkow Leibinger, Arno Brandlhuber, Jesko Fezer, Christoph Gengnagel, Gonzales Haase, Konstantin Grcic,
June-14 Meyer-Grohbrügge & Chermayeff, Jürgen Mayer H, Sauerbruch Hutton and Something Fantastic have been discussing
and now will present their personal re-edition of This Is Tomorrow, an exhibition and architectural statement
that was first shown in 1956 in London. Something Fantastic's contribution to this project called How Soon Is Now
is going to be a small collection of things that stand exemplarily for their idea of themes
and tendencies in architecture and design, life and work, in the close future.

is invited by Pedro Gadanho of MoMA New York to contribute to the exhibitio Uneven Growth,
which thematizes the fact that the majority of the world's population growth happens in poor, urban environments.
The contribution/intervention will be developed in collaboration with Brazilian RUA architects, and focus on Rio as field of action.

on invitation by Damien Antoni and Lydia Blasco who initiated the exhibition project for the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine.
The show will be on until November 18th and features their research on mobile kitchens worldwide as well as a choice

The Exhibition Cidade de Deus – City of God is opening the 26th of July in Rio de Janeiro.
The show features the resulting prototypes of this year's MAS Urban Design at ETH Zurich,
the 26-piece-collection of posters of essential ideas of student projects and research,
and two exemplary strategies for both informal and social housing in CDD.

Post Studio Tales Exhibition


Post-Studio Tales is a residency-as-exhibition investigating »contemporary art practice and the spaces of its production«.
For one month, eighteen artists and the project's three curators will stay and work at District Kunst- und Kulturförderung
in a site-specific exhibition architecture designed by the Berlin-based architectural collective Something Fantastic.
The lecture andpresentation series Raconter et rencontrer will take place on three days during the project; details and further events
will be announced online.

From 13.04.2012–30.04.2012, POST-STUDIO TALES will be open to visitors Wednesday–Friday 12.00pm - 6.00pm and
Saturday–Sunday 2.00 pm - 6.00 pm as well as by appointment. For more information, please contact the

The municipality of São Paulo will present the book Building Brasil edited by Marc Angélil and Rainer Hehl in
collaboration with Something Fantastic on the 17th of November at 7pm at the OCA, Parque do Ibirapuera
as part of the 9a Bienal de Architectura de São Paulo.

Something Fantastic will participate in the City of Future Conference initiated by the Goethe Institut and
the Deutsches Architektur Museum (DAM). Their will be a public lecture on thursday the 10th of November at 5pm at the DAM.
Other lecturers include among others Arno Brandelhuber, Jan Liesegang of raumlabor Jörg Leeser of BeL and Steffan Rettich of KARO.

Something Fantastic has been invited by Rainer Hehl to develop a publication on Rio and Sao Paulo with
master students of MAS, Marc Angélil' chair at the ETH Zürich. Next to two intense workshops Something Fantastic
will spend large parts of the summer working with the stundents on bringing out the best of their work.

"Raumproduktion" with an exhibition in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf. Featured Artists are Ingrid Hora, Julika Gittner, Larissa Fassler,
Juul Hondius and Alex Schweder.

Something Fantastic is mentoring the student team of this year's UdK Buchshop that will open between 15th and 17th of July.
The image shows the winning proposal of the interdisciplinary shop furniture competition that was supervised by
Julian Schubert, Leonard Streich and Elena Schütz in collaboration with Axel Kufus.

Something Fantastic has been invited by the National Association of Norwegian Architects to give the inauguration lecture
to "POP-UP", one of its "Year of Architecture" programmes marking the 100 year existence of the NAL.
The Lecture will be held at the office of Snøhetta, thursday the 20th of january 2011, 7pm.





14.01.2011: SENSITIVE MATTER, EXHIBITION CRITIC, AEDES, BERLIN

Something Fantastic have been invited to Catalonia, Spain, as guest critics for the exhibition "Sensitive Matter" curated by Pere Buil,
Carlos Cámara and Joan Vitòria that is going to be on display at Aedes Architecture Gallery between January 14th and 16th. Julian and
Elena just travelled between Barcelona, Reus, Ollot and Palma to visit the work featured in the exhibition.

at the Bauhaus University Weimar as part of the "Redefinition" program initiated by the editors of Horizonte.
